The Parish Church is one of the most historic buildings in the village. The tower was built around 1200 AD on Saxon foundations. It originally had a spire which was removed in the early half of the 19th century.

Some time in the latter part of the same century, the vicar who was a millionaire, offered to repair the church, but the church wardens refused his offer. In 1902-1903 major restoration work was carried out, mainly to the tower, the cost of this work was £800. The architect was Mr William Weir.

A new reading desk was presented to the church by Lady Elinor Denison. The Mering chapel was founded by Sir William Mering in the early part of the 16th century. The first recorded rector of the church was Radulphus Brito in 1248.
